About my drawing series
The Process - The Process is a series of distorted charcoal portraits drawn very quickly and from imagination. The title refers to the ongoing peace process back at home between the Colombian government and the guerrilla rebels. The faces reflect the process civilians are forced to go through as we observe the slow progress of those peace talks with the enemy and digest with impotence the outcome while we hope for that elusive lasting peace. Fragility and Strength - Fragility and Strength is a psychological representation of trials and traumas we go through during our lifetime. The drawings and the photographs explore the creative process not only of the artwork in itself but also the creative process of the human character. Geometrical compositions --the foundation of the natural world-- are visible in most of these drawings as the foundation of composition. I have chosen to draw portraits based on real people. The physical distortions defy the borderline possible vs. the impossible. See drawings & photos
One Liners - One Liners is a series of ink drawings made using only one line from beginning to end. The titles are most of the time a joke, an expression or a play on words. See drawings
Other drawings - Drawing for me has always been the foundation and backbone of my artistic vision. I constantly draw the human figure and the natural world in search for new forms of expression. I will continue along this path as I continue to work within the tradition known for its commitment to draftsmanship and line. See drawings
About my painting series
In Danger – In Danger is a series of acrylic paintings that raise awareness about endangered species due to human activities. It is a mix of two of my passions, art and the infinite love I have towards animals. See paintings
Unity & Fragmentation - These works are semi-abstract landscape paintings created firstly as complete abstract pieces. I turn the abstractions into somewhat recognizable space where some realism starts to emerge from the abstract chaos. The painting process is parallel to the way we find reasonable answers through life experiences. See paintings
Physiognomic Portraits – This series of small format oil paintings explores the subconscious mind. They originated after a study of Messerschmidt's late sculptures and a series of quickly executed charcoal drawings made from imagination. Through these portraits I explore the way deep emotions shape our character. See paintings
Silence – These interiors are a series of paintings that talk about the need to meditate more and make less noise.
Body Language – This series of paintings explore the moods of the human body..
River Series – Just as a river that crosses through a city brings life to the city, in this series the river reflects the life from within and appears as a source of life in the middle of a chaotic intersection of worlds. See paintings
Portraits, Interiors and Landscapes – I am primarily a figurative artist. Aside from this I rather not be categorized under any specific artistic style. I simply believe that artists need to create their own path instead of trying to fit into the ones anyone dictates. I always paint portraits and landscapes as I work and develop my own techniques. To confront my own nature from time to time I also go back to the self-portrait.
